Skinny Bitch by Kim Barnouin and Rory Freedman is most certainly a diet book Skinny Bitchwith a no nonsense approach to losing weight and getting in shape.  I have never read a book about fitness and  healthy eating that left you constantly thinking about the food that goes in and out of your mouth.

If ever a book about dieting stirred up controversy this is the one. Skinny Bitch is a combination of facts, common sense, and opinions from it’s authors Kim Barnouin and Rory Freedman, who are on a mission to help people feel good about themselves.

There is much debate over whether the authors of this book are “experts.” When it comes to their diet plan of course they are experts, it’s their diet plan and they created it based on their ideas and beliefs. This is not the end all be all for everyone, no diet is going to solve every problem. The Skinny Bitch plan is for someone that wants to be more eco conscious about what they are eating and get healthy via a somewhat vegan lifestyle. I said somewhat because their designer shoes and handbags tell me that our authors probably 100% vegan.

There are some things in this book that you might not want to read about, such as the description of how a slaughter house is run. Stories from workers that worked in slaughter houses and chicken farms might not be what you’re looking for. While mostly informative, I wasn’t fond of the scare tactic being used to lead someone toward eating differently. It needs to be a choice and not a fear. The information is enough to get the point across, it doesn’t need to be turned into a sideshow.

What I did like best about the book was actually found towards the end. The menu plans layout day by day, meal by meal, how to follow this plan. They offer up suggestions for replacing meat in your diet, Boca burgers at your next barbeque for example, so that you don’t feel like you’re making sacrifices. There are scenarios of what you might order if you go out to eat. Overall this section of the book is a very helpful example for someone that might be thinking about going in this direction with their diet, but isn’t sure where or how to begin.

Overall the book is an easy read, and with the exception of a few parts I found it mostly enjoyable. While it didn’t convert me to be a Skinny Bitch, it did give me some new ideas and a fresh perspective.

Skinny Bitch Skinny Bitch

Not your typical boring diet book, this is a tart-tongued, no-holds-barred wakeup call to all women who want to be thin. With such blunt advice as, Soda is liquid Satan and You are a total moron if you think the Atkins Diet will make you thin, it’s a rallying cry for all savvy women to start eating healthy and looking radiant. Unlike standard diet books, it actually makes the reader laugh out loud with its truthful, smart-mouthed revelations. Behind all the attitude, however, there’s solid guidance. Skinny Bitch espouses a healthful lifestyle that promotes whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, and encourages women to get excited about feeling clean and pure and energized.
