The NutriSystem Diet  Plan is quite different from most other diets. While most other diets will require you to either eat less, or cut out carbohydrates or fat, the Nutrisystem Diet does neither. In fact, for most people it would probably be the easiest diet to follow – except for one small thing:

The price. Success in the program relies heavily on purchasing pre-packaged meals from NutriSystems.

The Nutrisystem Diet was designed around the GI, or glycemic index – which relates to how your body reacts to specific carbohydrates. The faster the sugar is released (high GI), the more insulin your body produces in reaction to it – making you feel hungry again sooner. This is why people who enjoy sweet stuff are constantly feeling peckish and keep nibbling away.

The concept is simple: add foods to every meal that will lower the GI of your meal in total, and as such reduce the insulin response form your body. By doing so you will be less likely to eat unnecessarily in between, and eventually eat less in total – not because you have to, but because you will feel like it.

What you have to keep in mind is that - while your body reacts to most proteins, fibers and other nutrients in a similar fashion, it does differentiate between different types of sugars and carbohydrates.

Some types of sugar - like sucrose and glucose (commonly encountered in sweets and desserts) tend to cause a spike in blood sugar, and as a result it causes a spike in your body’s reaction (insulin production) to it. Other forms of sugar like dextrose (fruit sugar) takes longer to break down, and does not create the “spike effect”.

Exercise is - unlike other “normal” diet plans – not deemed to be necessary. If you feel like indulging in it, it will help, but the system works just fine without it. There are, however, a few recommendations about switching to low-fat milk, and adding salads and fruit to every meal.

The biggest stumbling block with the Nutrisystem Diet is the effect it’s likely to have on your pocket. Ready-made meals and groceries can be ordered from the supplier’s website – and these are necessary in order to achieve success. Unfortunately, it does not come cheap, and it can be out of reach for many people who really want to lose weight.

If your workout consists of more than just jogging, at some point you’ll want to invest in some fitness equipment. Which you select will, naturally, depend on lots of things – budget vs price, quality vs needs, type and interests and so forth.

Fitness equipment can run anywhere from $50 to $5,000 or more. You may be satisfied with an exercise ball or you may want a complete gym. That depends, of course, on your budget, your commitment and your desired workout routine.

If you’re considering an exercise bike, for example, in order to do some spinning for a great cardio workout, get something solid and reliable. You want the bike to be good for at least five years.

Make sure you take into account how much space you have, and how much you’re likely to have for the next few years. For a bike you need only about 10 square feet, but a treadmill will require 30 square feet. A multi-station weight machine may take up to 100 square feet or more, depending on the design.

If you’re just starting out, test a variety of equipment from different manufacturers at multiple outlets. Several companies make high quality gear, but every person is an individual. That means that a machine that works great for one person may be unsuited for another.

A rowing machine that fits your tall friend may be useless, or actually harmful, for you. Get equipment that’s adjustable to fit your body size and type. That also helps when and if you share the equipment with a partner. Make sure the adjustments – for tensions, lengths, weights, etc – will travel through a wide range. As you build strength and endurance you’ll want equipment that continues to test you as you develop.

Make sure you, and anyone who shares it, can use the equipment safely. Multi-station weight machines have safety features that vary in style and effectiveness. Pick equipment that suits you, not the salesperson.

From some advisors, ‘no pain, no gain’ can mean ‘you should feel some pain’. Some mild discomfort the day after is normal and expected. But if it hurts you to use the gear, either you’re doing something wrong – and should get guidance about proper technique – or the equipment isn’t right for you. You should feel comfortable using it.

For example, walking machines should have rails that suit your height. They should also have rollers and settings that you can operate properly while in motion. Weight machines should have a chair and handlebars that you can sit in and grab without straining and don’t produce back or neck aches.

Shop around, ask a lot of questions and don’t buy until you are satisfied that you’ve found something that will last and suits your unique style.

Increase your whole grains. Grains contain a lot of fiber. Fiber keeps the digestive system working properly. No one wants to be bloated in their new swimsuit! Fiber grabs onto fat while it gets digested. Fiber also keeps you feeling fuller longer so you don’t overeat.

Drink your water. Water is crucial in everyone’s diet. It keeps the human machine in proper working order. Water cleanses the inside of toxins that can harm the body and make it harder to lose weight.

Eat more often. To get the best your body has to offer, you need to feed it the good stuff a little at a time, all day long. Consider more fruits, vegetables, lean meat, fish and dairy. Eat whole fresh foods to get the best nutritional value and fiber.

Avoid highly processed foods which miss many of the nutrients your body needs. More frequent lighter meals also increases your metabolism.

Limit the sweets. Empty calories add fat and will sabotage your efforts to lose weight and look great. If you must have something sweet, try having one small piece of dark chocolate or a bowl of frozen yogurt. Even a fruit parfait or a smoothie will tame that sweet tooth without any damage to all your healthy eating.

Get sleep. Without proper rest, the body can’t repair itself and get you ready for the next day. Stress is also more of an issue and that can lead to increased levels of cortisol in your system. This hormone is your enemy if you want to lose belly fat.

Remember, there are no quick fixes to weight loss. Choose a healthy lifestyle that includes good food, exercise, and plenty of rest and your fitness will last far beyond one season – your good health will last a lifetime.

I have to admit sometimes I make my spinach and orange juice smoothie right before a workout to give me extra energy for an extra added bump. I love protein and whey shake smoothies for that post workout burn, guaranteed to get the juices flowing and vitamins going.

Smoothies are so popular now that you can pretty much find a recipe anywhere you look, however  beware not all smoothies are made the same. Some people think that just because it has fruit in it the smoothie is all fat free.  While they are pretty much fat free they can be loaded with tons of sugar for sweetness and extra things here and there.

So  next time you make your smoothie or get one made ask them to hold on the sugar and creams. Fruits have their own natural sugars already to begin with and are processed a lot easier by the body than sugars bought in the grocery store.

Place in a blender for a minute or two and there you go. You will have a high iron energy smoothie. This smoothie is one of my favorites because it is great for detoxification and cell regeneration.

Yes losing weight can be tough and challenging depending on our own particular weight loss goals. But losing weight does not happen overnight and does take time just like anything else. Remember anything that you put effort into will flourish.

2.Second you need to set measurable goals and take it one day at time, keep a journal of the foods you eat. So you are able to realize what you are actually putting into your body on the long run.

3.Third join local fitness meetup groups in your area to find workout buddies and people that are trying to do the same thing as you. It will keep you seeing your goal and give you some accountability if you can not do it yourself.

4.Fourth you need to invest in learning about health and fitness by reading health books and buying workout dvds and equipment. The more you have at home when you can not make it out will help you to stay on track.

There are many more tips such as not going to the grocery store hungry, eat six small meals throughout the day and even breaking your workout into small sets throughout the day.

But to stay focused requires having a goal and when you write down your goals and place them somewhere in front of you. Like on your fridge or even hanging that small dress in front of you like in the cereal commercial, because it works. When you have visuals to remind you it keeps your mind motivated and remembering the more important things like your health or even just getting ready for that cruise!

Did you know that you can eat a lot and still lose weight? It sounds too good to be true, right? Here are some ways to make it happen.

Steps

1. Eat more! Don’t be fooled because the article is referring to more of healthy, low-fat foods rather than junk food. Junk food can range from burgers to those cookies that you always bought! Adding a lot of vegetables and fruits to your diet will help you. Also, drinking bouillon, a Haitian soup, made with filtered water will help you feel full.
2. Exercise every day! This could be the most difficult step to follow. But what you can do is actually start slowly then steady increase the amount of exercise. For example, today you will walk for 10 minutes, repeat this for the whole week. For the next week, double your workload. You may get leaner that way! The important thing is to get your heart rate up and start, now!
3. Feed your temptations once in a while. Go ahead and have that donut or slice of pizza, but before you do, drink a few glasses of water and eat a bowl of raw veggies such as cucumbers, celery, carrots, and tomatoes. They will fill you up and you will have very little room to eat the “junk” food.
4. Consume things that have no calories. There are two things you eat and drink that contain no calories: water and fiber. The more of these you get into your diet, the better off you will be. For example, you can eat a pound of mixed salad greens with assorted raw vegetables (carrots, red cabbage, celery, broccoli, onion, etc.) with a low or no-calorie salad dressing and only have eaten 100-150 calories. This is because of the high water and fiber content of the salad and low calorie dressing. Also, eat lots of celery. It has only 8 calories, but amazingly, it takes more than 8 calories to digest it. So, you actually BURN calories by eating celery! It’s not much, about 2 calories per 8 inch stalk, but it sure doesn’t hurt.
   • Avoid sodas as much as possible. Instead, drink flavored water or unsweetened iced tea.
5. Take broth-based soups. They are a relatively low in calories. A commerically-available ready to eat “chicken and stars” soup may only have 80 calories for 1 serving, much less than diet “meal shakes” or nutrition bars.
6. Practice good eating habits. Always use utensils and sit at the table. This stops you from eating precariously. Eating with your hands will mean that you take in more food in one scoop. Don’t forget to eat slowly and stop when you’re full. Similar to the above step, if you can’t stop, drink up! Maybe your body is thirsty and hungry no more! Also, you can do any other chores (other than eating). For instance, go shopping, or play badminton with your friend, or play games on the computer!
7. Spread out your diet! Eat more small chunks of meals, rather than 3 big meals. If you eat 100-150 calories or so every two hours, your body stays in a higher-metabolism digesting mode. This allows you to burn more calories than eating just 3 meals a day.[1]

Tips

• Avoid calorie dense, unhealthy food. Unhealthy food is food which contains calories, but little nutritional value. These calories are called “empty calories.” You will probably be best served if you also avoid foods that would contain empty calories if they were not fortified with vitamin C (like some gummy bears) or calcium (like some cookies). Fortification with vitamins doesn’t always make unhealthy food healthy.
• Try to do a little bit at a time until you get used to it.
• Get a friend to follow the diet with you. Sometimes, when following a diet by yourself, you’ll break the rules because it’s just you. But following it with a friend, you have a partner who will help keep you on track and responsible.
• Expect to cheat or binge once in a while. (A word of caution: if you’re binging more than once or twice a month, consider a different approach to your weight loss goals.) Don’t despair when you realize you’ve strayed from your goals. It took you a lifetime to achieve your current weight, and it will take time to achieve your new weight and size goal.
• Grab a small snack before heading to restaurants. This will curb off your hunger and keep your head clear while you make healthy choices.
• Opt for chicken or fish instead of red meat, and baked potato or rice instead of fries. Choose foods that are steamed, grilled, broiled or baked instead of fried. Avoid dishes that are labeled as “breaded”, “crispy” or “battered” – those are the code words for “fried”.
• Ask for dressings and sauces on the side. Even a green salad can pack as many calories as a burger if it’s swimming in a fatty dressing.
• Pack away extra food. At the beginning of the meal, ask for a doggie bag, and put what you aren’t going to eat in the bag.
• If the restaurant is known for especially large portion sizes, you can share a portion with a friend.
• Add good fats to your diet. Monounsaturated fats have been clinically proven to help you burn fat, especially in your midsection. So, add foods like avocadoes, kalamata olives, walnuts, and flaxseed to your diet, and watch the weight fall right off you.
• You might also consider adding “superfoods” to your diet: superfood is a term sometimes used to describe food with high phytonutrient content that some may believe confers health benefits as a result. For example, blueberries are often considered a superfood (or superfruit) because they contain significant amounts of antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese and dietary fiber.[2] But before doing that, you should definitely read some reviews and do some research. Yes, superfoods are recommended by people like Nicholas Perricone (featured on Oprah and on some PBS TV stations in the USA).
• There’s a great ‘diet’ program out there that shows you how to ‘cheat your way thin’ by fooling your body’s ‘starvation mechanism’. Details at this blog: eat-to-lose.blogspot.com

Warnings

• You have to exercise and eat healthier, otherwise you may not notice any improvement and—even worse—you may gain weight.
• If you need to lose more than 10% of your body weight, consult with your primary-care physician before beginning any weight loss plan.
• Try to limit water consumption to 10 glasses per day. People can drink far more water than necessary while exercising, however, putting them at risk of water intoxication. (Water intoxication is incredibly rare, and easy to avoid by making sure to consume electrolytes along with the large amounts of water)
• Limit the following:
  • Soda: the average soda is full of calories, sugar, and other chemicals.
  • Too much bread/butter: A slice of bread with butter has around 170 calories (100 calories per medium sliced slice of bread and 70 calories per 10g of butter).
  • Large portions: You’ll end up eating much less and save a lot of money as a bonus!
  • Dressing: Salad dressing is the main source of calories and other things to avoid in salad, try vinegar or hummus as a low-cal dressing.
