Gyms offer a number of benefits, both practical and psychological. But there are a few caveats to consider before taking the plunge.

Few could afford to buy the variety of equipment that gyms typically offer. Multi-station weight machines are just the beginning. Most gyms have treadmills, stationary rowing equipment, stretching bars, etc.

Many have tennis and racquetball courts, occasionally even squash and Jai Lai courts. Jai Lai is that fast-paced Spanish-origin game played in a racquetball-like court with a curved racket, only much faster. In addition, some gyms offer swimming pools, saunas and even rock-climbing practice walls.

Unless you’re a multi-millionaire you couldn’t begin to duplicate the space or the gear.

Then there’s the expertise you’ll find at a gym – both from the trainers and the other members. Gyms frequently have professional trainers on staff that can answer just about any question you have. They provide weight-training guidance, health tips and even dietary advice.

Gym members are sometimes more knowledgeable than the professionals. People dedicated to optimal fitness often take the time and effort to study the field. You’ll find fitness fanatics, aerobics instructors and medical doctors among the clientele.

Apart from the equipment and assistance, gyms offer an opportunity to socialize during activities that can be pretty boring. Few people think a treadmill is the height of excitement and watching TV while walking can deaden your mind as you tone your body.

You’ll make social contacts, get encouragement and have the chance to psych up into a regular routine in a way that is hard to duplicate at home.

But gyms sometimes have a common set of drawbacks.

Gym membership can be expensive. Most offer different payment plans – per visit, per month, per year or lifetime. Per visit is usually pricey, though it might be a good option if you’re just visiting a city. Per month is often the best value, but prices can still be between $30 and $300 per month. Many will offer a trial membership, either free or at a reduced rate for the first month.

Of course, no price is a good deal if you don’t go. And going to the gym can begin to seem like just one more duty among more pressing obligations. Many people in contemporary society lead extremely busy lives and finding time to go to the gym may well end up near the bottom of a long list.

Gyms can be messy. Most gym members are conscientious about wiping down the equipment, but it only takes a small number to spoil a gym for the majority. Alert staff can help keep those occasions few and far between, so look for a gym with staff that care.

Gyms can be unhealthy. Mingling with lots of people in a hot, humid atmosphere can encourage the spread of colds and other air-borne or contact-spread diseases. Showers are particularly prone to this since you usually have to touch the controls.

Only the individual can weigh the pros and cons and reach a final decision about which are most important. Unless you are lucky enough to find the right one the first time out, try a few on a trial basis before committing to anything long term.

Dumbell Workout – Easy Muscle for Bulking or Toning

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chess_McDoogle]Chess McDoogle

With the plethora of expensive exercise gadgets out there, it’s easy to get lost in the ridiculous notion that you need some fancy machine or contraption to get in shape and gain muscle. Why is it then, that when you go into any serious, hardcore gym, that you will find the busiest area to be the dumbell area. With all the fancy, expensive machinery, it is the dumbell workout that time and again shines through the distorted haze of expensive machinery and membership that the exercise industry has created.

It goes back to the idea that you can’t beat the basics. The already tried and true ways to build muscle and get in shape is accomplished through the dumbell workout. Whether you are into toning or bulking, the dumbell workout will not fail in accomplishing your goals. And the simple, conveniant nature of it simply can’t be beat.

Toning and Bulking: A good illustration of the ability of a dumbell workout being able to accomplish both toning and bulking can be seen through a bicep workout. If I am focusing on bulking my entire bicep I will perform standing dumbell curls, with a fairly heavy dumbell. This is a powerful arm builder which works the entire bicep and forces you to work the weight through a free range of motion, as opposed to machines which isolate your movement, generally only partially affecting your bicep.

Now, if I am concerning myself with more of a toning workout, or wanting to isolate a portion of the bicep specifically (such as the peak) then i will sit down and perform strict concentration curls. Where the standing bicep dumbell workout was more powerful in its execution, the seated concentration bicep dumbell workout is more focused. It is performed at a slower pace, and with a lighter weight.

Almost any body part can be applied in a similar fashion with a dumbell workout. You simply either focus on a dumbell workout with powerful movements or more concentrated, deliberate movements. Or in fact you can combine the two for both mass building and toning results.

Before going any further it is very important for you to learn the basic principals and fundamentals of burning fat and gaining muscle. Building chest has always been termed difficult. The reason chest appears to grow slow is due to its size. Chest is a major muscle with lots of fibers. Get started and develop toned, rock hard pecks with some of the most effective “Chest exercises” given below. This is a totally natural program that is hitting the bodybuilding world by storm, so prepare for amazing muscle growth guaranteed and in super quick time.

Basically, in order to have a total chest development you need to do 2 kinds of movements- Press and Fly’s.

(1) Incline Bench Dumbbell or Barbell Press For Upper Chest:

Lie on an incline bench, the angle of which should be around 30 degrees and no greater or else the workload is shifted to the shoulders and off the chest. Select a pair of moderately heavy dumbbells. Grab each dumbbell using a regular grip instead of a grip where your palms face inward. Position yourself and have your spotter hand you two dumbbells, one for each hand. Press the dumbbells upward in an explosive fashion. Conversely, return to the start position in a slow and controlled fashion. Repeat the movements by increasing weights, for as long as you can until failure.

(2) Flat Bench Dumbbell or Barbell Press for Middle Chest:

Lie flat on the bench. For balance and power keep your head, shoulders in contact with the bench at all times and your feet spread out flat on the floor. Have your spotter hand you each dumbbell and without bouncing, smoothly reverse direction and forcefully press to full arm extension directly above your chest and vice versa. Repeat until failure.

(3) ” Chest exercises”- Dips For Middle Chest:

Find a set of dip bars and position yourself on them with your knees bend and your lower legs crossed. Slowly lower your torso down to where your chest nearly touches the front of the dip bar and then return to the start position and repeat until failure.

(4) Wide Grip Decline Barbell Bench Press for Lower Chest:

Position yourself on a free weight decline bench press machine and grab the barbell above you with a grip that is as wide apart as possible. Lift the barbell off of the rack and slowly lower it to your chest and then press the bar back to the start position in an explosive fashion. Repeat until failure. Because of the angle of this “chest exercise” touching the bar to your chest is fine.

(5) Smith Machine Incline bench Press for Upper Chest:

This ‘Chest exercise” is very similar to the regular barbell incline bench press. The only difference is that a smith machine acts as a spotter to you. Place a free standing incline bench under a smith machine. Lie flat on your back and grab the barbell above you with a grip slightly beyond shoulder width apart. Lift the barbell and slowly lower it to about 3 inches above your clavicle and then press the bar back to the start position. Do not touch the bar to your upper chest.

(6) Flat Bench Cable Flyers for Middle Chest

Place a free standing flat bench in between a cable pulley machine that has pulleys on two sides. Position yourself on the flat bench, flat on your back. Using a low pulley on each side, have your spotter hand you the one-hand attachment for each hand. When you begin this movement, you want your arms to be stretched out wide to your sides with your elbows slightly bent and your palms facing inward, toward one another. When you lift the pulleys, visualize hugging a giant tree trunk. At the peak of the movement, really squeeze your pecks together for a one-count.

(7) Free Motion Cable Crossovers For Middle Chest:

Using the free motion machine, securely hold both handles and positions you in a balanced stance. While keeping a slight bend in your elbows, slowly bring the cables out in front of you while keeping the tension entirely on your chest muscles. Squeeze your chest at the peak position and let the weight back up slowly to the starting position.

The secret to a more sculpted physique is to combine chest building weight moves with fat burning cardio. The suggested “Chest exercises” will firm up flabby muscles, while cardio exercise burns fat from all over the body, including your chest and torso. Choose a weight that is heavy enough to challenge your target muscles, but not so heavy that your joints feel strained. Perform these suggested “Chest exercises” 2-3 times a week, with a rest day in between.

A workout followed by any body builder must be a properly planned program that gives enough attention to all the areas in the body and enough resistance to all muscle groups. There are various types of workouts for building your body.

The current position of your health matters a lot for devising a proper workout for building your body. Your body condition influences your susceptibility to an injury, and your recoverability from any other injuries. There is a certain limit up to which the body can take the workouts. It is always suggested to slowly increase your level of workout, start slow and keep reaching higher regions.

The personal goal is another factor that matters a lot when you begin to workout. It is always better to get your preferences right by deciding if you want an increase in the body mass, or lose weight or become stronger. If the workout is done depending on the goal, the chances to succeed are much higher.

Having a basic knowledge about the location of muscles is very important when you decided to workout. The basic idea about the location of the muscles will help you flex them to the maximum possible extent.

Regular body building workouts are generally done up to four days a week to start off with. The best days to workout are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Take off on Wednesday and weekends. Below is a good workout chart that will help you focus on all parts of the body:

* Day 1: Triceps, Deltoids

* Day 2: Traps, Back

* Day 3: -Rest-

* Day 4: Forearms, Legs

* Day 5: Biceps, Chest

* Day 6: -Rest-

* Day 7: -Rest-

This kind of a workout will make you stretch only one part of the body and it will give maximum recovery time for all the parts which gives a maximum potential for growth. It is important to give the correct recovery time due to the heavy workout, and it will heal your muscles between the workout sessions.

The progress needs to be kept note of regularly and all the exercises must be noted. This will give you a basic idea as to where you stand when you consider the strength potential. Changes can be made in these workouts to realize any personal goal of yours.

The workouts done to build your body vary with each person. But the basic workouts remain the same and it helps all body builders tone their muscles the way they want. Put the entire workout together to keep your body strong and fit.
